SNAP-8 vs Argireline: two SNAP-25 mimic peptides compared
SNAP-8 and Argireline are synthetic peptides modeled on the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, one of the proteins that form the SNARE complex involved in vesicle fusion. SNAP-8 is a longer version of Argireline.

The SNARE complex
The SNARE complex is formed by SNAP-25, syntaxin and synaptobrevin, and it drives the fusion of vesicles with the cell membrane. Both peptides reproduce part of the SNAP-25 N-terminus and are designed to compete with it for a position in the complex.
Published research
- Acetyl hexapeptide-3 was characterized in vitro for interference with SNARE-complex formation (Blanes-Mira et al., Int. J. Cosmet. Sci., 2002).
- SNAP-8 extends that sequence by Ala-Asp. Most published work on it comes from cosmetic-chemistry and formulation research.
Handling notes
Both peptides are N-acetylated and C-amidated, which removes the charged termini. They contain methionine, which can oxidize, so vials should be kept sealed and away from light. A mass spectrometry result about 16 units above the expected mass can indicate methionine oxidation. See reading the mass spectrometry panel.
